RoboCop #Netflix365

In the near future Detroit is still a wasteland of crime and civil unrest.  Omni Consumer Products (OCP) is a private corporation that basically runs and owns everything.  OCP is supplying the police with advanced mechanized police robots.  The demonstration of the new robot proves to be less than stellar.

A gang of criminals just robbed a bank.  Officer Murphy (Peter Weller) is in pursuit.  Chasing down the gang proves to be a fatal endeavor for Murphy due to the multiple gunshots taken by the officer inflicted by the gang.  Murphy’s body is then used in another product developed by OCP.  A cyborg is created using Murphy and OCP technology creating: RoboCop.  Part man. Part machine. All cop.  The ultimate in law enforcement technology, RoboCop is ready to clean up the scourge of the metropolis.

OCP wants to wipe the slate clean, by slate they want to demolish Detroit and build a new city: Delta City.  How do they get the sign off?  Create enough crime so the people of the city all agree that flattening Motor City is in the peoples best interest.  The gang that killed officer Murphy is actually run by the head of OCP.  RoboCop is supposed to be “programmed” like a computer, but the memories of Officer Murphy begin to interfere with his computer persona.  Trouble comes when RoboCop/Murphy figures out who is behind the crime in Detroit, the problem is in the programming, RoboCop can not harm an executive of OCP.

RoboCop is a great movie that created a franchise of multiple movies, action figures, comics and an upcoming reboot.  The movie has an unlimited supply of bullets, bodies and blood.  There is great dialogue of cheesy one liners by RoboCop and the criminals.  The movie has an underlying commentary of satire with the news broadcast, mocking TV commercials and products, among them the luxury car 6000 SUX, “An American Tradition.”  RoboCop is a great movie and is a must see.
