A mathematician creates a device that can get through any encrypted software, banks, air traffic control, military, anything.  A group of security, software hackers, who all have questionable past are recruited by the government to retrieve the device.  The team finds the venture intriguing and are looking for a great payday.  They all know that working for the government is risky but decide to over look that due to the money and the leader of the group is a fugitive and if they do not help the government will expose him and send him to jail.  They complete the job and at the time of the hand off they find out the creator of the box is dead.  The hackers get spooked and flee.  The rest of the movie is about the chase, realizing corruption, and trying to do the right thing.

Even though the movie was made in 1992 and deals with computers and technology it does not feel dated.  It could be easy for this type of movie to become dated due to advances made in technology in the past twenty years.  The main theme of this is governments need for power, technology being able to dangerous in a way that can take away your freedom, and the ability to find redemption and doing the right thing regardless of the outcome.

The cast of this movie could not be better: Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd, Sydney Poitier, River Phoenix, David Strathairn, Donal Logue, Ben Kingsley, James Earl Jones and Mary McDonnell.  Fun movie, great cast, witty banter, good story.  I am not a huge Redford fan but as the leader of the group he is great.  This movie comes highly recommended.
